Original Beats!!!

My trip to Haiti really opened my eyes to some things...for months now I remember Ozmosis from Skyz Da Limit getting on me for featuring so many tracks on this site with unoriginal beats and I didn't think too much of it though I understood where he was coming from, but after my trip to Haiti, my eyes are open and I completely am in agreement with Oz.

Artists that are laying down tracks on commercial beats need to realize that they are hurting this movement more then they are helping it. We have a lot of Haitian beat makers out there looking for a slice of bread and putting in a lot of work to help this movement and when you put out tracks on unoriginal beats its like a slap in their faces and total neglect. Also basing your entire repertoire on commercial beats is an easy way out and cuts out half your work.

Please remember, our ancestors did not look for an easy way out of their movement, if we are to model this after them then we have to do as they did and knock down doors without bowing down to get into the back door.

With this said, this site will start really focusing more on original beats and tracks...am not saying we are going to completely neglect tracks that are made from unoriginal beats but we'll feature them less and try to keep them more near the bottom. Other factors that we'll keep in mind as we select songs will be the actual artists in question since some artists depend more on unoriginal beats then others. If an artist is known for using his own beats and every now and then puts out a mixtape with tracks that are not original or does a track here and there to get radio attention, then we'll consider that being that he puts in the work. But those that build their entire catalog on beats that are not original will no longer be given great consideration.

In Haiti right now most radio emissions will not play anything unoriginal and rightly so because these producers and beat makers are struggling to bring in the original and should get proper respect. Let's support the artists and artists support the beat makers because if we have a movement then we all have to be in support of each other.

Haitian color complex alive and well

When I was 17 my girlfriend's mother and grandmother who were as black as me did not want her with me cause I was too black...yo di'l "Marie G(wont blow up her name) pou ki sa wap pede pote ti gason nwe sa la an?" (Marie why you keep bringing this black boy here) her grandmother called me "Ti nwe yah" (The little blacky)...crazy thing is none of them were close to light skinned and they actually liked me a lot before they found out we were dating...

Years later I seen her at a Christmas party with her new light skinned boyfriend and she made sure to make it a point to let me know that after me she went as she said "a few shades lighter" ...since I grew up here and at the short time I spent in Haiti I knew a lot of really dark rich and powerful people, this was my first experience that made me realize the color complex in Haiti, I have been teased in America being called blacky by Haitians, midnight by Americans growing up but I didn't know the problem was like that in Haiti until I was 17...oh and all this happened in Brooklyn that goes to show you that the problem affects not just Haitians in Haiti but it traveled along with us

Oh another case in Queens my step mother's mother denounces one of her grandchildren because she was marrying a dark skinned guy...she let her know from the offset that she would not accept any grandchildren that came out dark...I dont know if it is a coincidence but most of her children, grandchildren are light skinned although she herself is brown...the 3rd generation of their family either are with really light skinned guys/girls or Hispanics, one white so they have taken the grandmother's teaching and kept away from dark skinned people...my step mother was at one time disowned by her mother for being with my father, ironically enough my father for the most part was the most successful husband of their family, most of the other sisters (my step mother's sisters) who were light enough to be accepted either left their wives long ago or live in the house with grandma because they really never accomplished much while my father moved his wife far far away into suburbs, bought her a house and all the necessities to consider yourself successful in America

See what I learned in many Haitian homes is that they would rather their daughter end up with a loser as long as that loser guarantees them light skinned silky hair babies then a successful charcoal guy...
